Rollforward
An investment's carrying value changes when the fund adds to or reduces the position and when gains, losses or other adjustments change its recorded value. The rollforward places those changes between the beginning and ending carrying values. This explains the asset's value movement, whereas the capital-account Roll-Forward explains investor ledger movements.
Open Accounting → Reports → Rollforward for the Investment Valuation Rollforward. Establish the marks or cost fallbacks at both ends before interpreting the components that bridge them.
Choose the reporting scope
Choose Entity and its matching Accounting Period. The population uses eligible Posted investment-tagged accounting and valuation records. It does not include every operational investment merely because it exists in FundOps.
After switching tabs, check the selected entity name and period again. Reselect them if the controls do not resolve or the scope is unexpected.
The screenshots use Cedarbridge Reporting Example LP, July–September 2026, with prepared fictional USD accounting inputs. Saved Posted records and the mark do not demonstrate posting, payment, valuation-approval or close execution.
Prepared carrying value bridge: zero beginning value plus USD4,000 additions and USD500 unrealized residual gives USD4,500 ending value. A balanced bridge does not independently validate the mark.
Read the bridge
Add the signed components to beginning carrying value to reach ending carrying value. In this implementation, Unrealized Gain/Loss fills the remaining difference after the other displayed components; it is a residual derived from the bridge endpoints. It can therefore reflect the effect of an endpoint or classification issue as well as a supported change in value. Trace marks and underlying journals independently before describing the residual as recognized unrealized accounting.
Read Beginning Carrying Value, Additions, signed Reductions, Realized Gain/Loss, Unrealized Gain/Loss, FX / Other Adjustments, Ending Carrying Value and Currency.
Beginning and ending carrying values use applicable accounting marks, with cost fallbacks when marks are absent. Check mark freshness in Schedule of Investments.
The displayed unrealized gain/loss is the amount needed to make beginning value plus the other movements agree with ending value. It is not necessarily the sum of Posted unrealized journal lines or independent evidence of a new valuation.
FX / Other Adjustments uses qualifying investment-tagged income lines under a name-based FX convention. It is not an automatic currency-translation engine.
Explain the movement with source evidence
- Match the investment and period with Schedule of Investments.
- Reconcile the signed components to ending carrying value.
- Trace additions, disposals and gain/adjustment lines in Accounting Detail, then open the complete journals.
- Inspect valuation dates and supporting documents; do not use a balancing residual as substitute valuation evidence.
- After an approved correction, refresh both schedules and the valuation-to-GL controls.
A bridge can add up while its underlying classification, stale mark, cost fallback or missing investment dimension still requires investigation. The investment aggregates use raw amounts and select valuations per investment without currency normalization. Use a verified compatible currency population; a Currency label or FX label does not establish translation.
The prepared Willow example begins at zero carrying value, adds USD4,000 and ends at USD4,500, with USD500 in the Unrealized Gain/Loss bridge. Reductions, realized gain/loss and FX/Other Adjustments are zero. The residual agrees with the prepared mark here; the arithmetic does not independently validate that mark. Currency is at the far right of the grid.
