How OpenAdmin Is Organized
OpenAdmin keeps the fund's setup, its operating events, its cash and its accounting connected. The same event may appear in several apps because each app answers a different question about it.
Establish the fund and its participants
Fund Organization establishes the participants and ownership relationships used by later events. A fund Entity identifies the administered fund; its share classes identify participations with particular terms; its accounts identify where the fund holds cash. On the investor side, a legal subscriber participates in a share class through a subscription. Investor relationships group related subscribers, and contacts hold communication details.
These links tell OpenAdmin which fund and participation an event belongs to. Setup alone does not establish a commitment has been paid or an account has a balance.
In the fictional Learning Sandbox, Cedarbridge Example Fund LP is the fund Entity, Class A is its Share Class, and Cedarbridge Example Holdings Ltd is the legal subscriber. Cedarbridge Core Subscription connects that subscriber to Class A. These records establish who participates; they do not prove a payment.
Start with Who’s Who & How They Connect for the participant relationships and Organization for the fund setup.
Record what changes
Fund Operations records subscriptions and investments, their commitments and capital activity, plus the fund's income, expenses and participation allocations. A call records an amount due; a contribution records funding. A valuation records a value at a date.
The core subscription's USD100,000 call and USD100,000 contribution are separate events. The fund's USD40,000 investment contribution records money going from the fund to Harbor Example Software. Investor funding and investment funding are different sides of the fund.
A Portfolio groups investments. An investment can also be associated with underlying assets, such as the properties held by a property vehicle. These groupings do not settle cash. Continue to Investments & Assets.
Explain the money movement
Cash & Treasury preserves bank or broker evidence and connects it to the fund's own cash records. An account transaction represents the account movement. Splits explain amounts and economic ownership within that movement; split links identify the activities or transfers those amounts settle. One bank movement can therefore support several purposes without becoming several independent receipts.
The saved Cedarbridge receipt is +USD100,000 in the bank and cash records, while its contribution activity displays −USD100,000 under the activity convention. These records describe one receipt. Signs belong to each record's convention; they must be read with the category and link.
Use How the Cash System Works to follow that receipt. Use Cash & Fund Operations Reconciliation when the evidence, cash or expected activity does not agree. Reconciliation runs across these areas; it is a separate learning section because checking a relationship is different from creating its records.
Review the accounting treatment
Accounting records the debits, credits and capital-account effects of supported events and settlements. Operational records explain the event, cash records explain its settlement, and journals explain its treatment in the books. These states can progress separately: an unpaid expense may require recognition before payment, while a settled contribution may still lack its accounting entry.
The core receipt demonstrates the second case: its contribution is linked to cash, but its explorer currently reports Missing journal. A linked contribution therefore does not establish a Posted journal.
