Accounting Detail
Investment schedules summarize cost, gains and carrying value. To explain a movement, trace the journal lines that recorded it and then inspect their complete journal and source. An investment dimension can appear on both sides of an entry, so the tagged line population can include cash, cost or gain classifications. Summing all its debits does not value the investment.
Open Accounting → Reports → Accounting Detail for Investment Accounting Detail, the period's eligible investment-tagged journal lines. It is the supporting accounting detail for a movement, with a narrower population than the complete journal.
Choose the reporting scope
Select Entity and its matching Accounting Period. This tab includes Posted, non-closing journal lines tagged to an investment and dated within the selected window. It is not all investment history, every line of a journal, or every operational investment event.
After switching tabs, check the selected entity name and period again. Reselect them if the controls do not resolve or the scope is unexpected.
The screenshots use Cedarbridge Reporting Example LP, July–September 2026, with prepared fictional USD accounting inputs. Saved Posted statuses do not demonstrate posting, payment, valuation approval or close execution. The period remains Open.
Four investment-tagged lines from prepared Journals #3 and #8. Debits and credits each total USD4,500; these line totals are not investment fair value.
Read the line and its full journal
A line contributes one classified effect to its journal. Other lines explain the offsetting effect and may be outside this tagged report, so an apparent imbalance in a filtered subset does not by itself identify an unbalanced journal. Debit and credit totals describe the selected accounting sides; signed reporting amounts describe a separate measure with the FX convention below. Read each with its currency and source before comparing it with a schedule's carrying value.
Read Journal Entry, Date, Investment, GL Account, Debit, Credit, Signed Reporting Amount, journal type, description/memo, Source Type, Source Record and Currency.
One row is one journal line. It can belong to different GL account types; it is not restricted to the investment-cost asset account. The report may show only a tagged subset of a balanced journal.
Debit and Credit use original line amounts. Signed Reporting Amount uses the stored FX amount when available, otherwise the original amount, with a debit-positive sign. The Currency column still identifies the line currency. Do not assume these measures are interchangeable across currencies or add debits and credits as investment value.
Trace a movement
- Identify the actual journal entry and line context, not just a repeated description.
- Open the Journal Entry reference to inspect the complete header and all lines.
- Read the source record to establish the underlying operational or accounting event.
- For settlement, use the appropriate activity/cash explorer through the owning app; this report has no dedicated link to Cash → Transaction Explorer.
- Compare the movement with Schedule of Investments and Rollforward.
If a movement is missing, inspect posting status, date, closing-journal treatment and the investment dimension in Accounting Operations → Journal Explorer before concluding that no accounting exists. Correct the responsible source or accounting record through its approved workflow, then refresh the report and affected controls.
The prepared example shows four investment-tagged lines: the two USD4,000 purchase lines in Journal #3 and the two USD500 appreciation lines in adjusting Journal #8. Debit and Credit each total USD4,500; Signed Reporting Amount nets to zero. Those totals describe the selected lines, not investment fair value.
Scroll right to inspect Source Type, Source Record and Currency. The purchase links to Investment Activity #3. The adjusting journal has no operational source reference; inspect its complete journal and valuation evidence rather than interpreting a blank source as an automatic broken link.
The same four rows, scrolled right. The purchase lines reference Investment Activity #3; the adjusting journal has no operational source reference. Both use USD.
