Unapplied Cash Recon
Use Cash & Treasury → Cash Recon → Unapplied Cash Recon to investigate cash splits whose current Purpose is Unapplied Cash. Decide what evidence is missing before applying the cash to a business record or confirming a genuine offset.
This is one row per currently unapplied split, not every unlinked receipt. A split without a business link but with another purpose is investigated through the relevant cash controls instead. Cleared rows remain here while their purpose is still Unapplied Cash.
Set scope and read the open item
Unapplied cash records money whose supported business use is still unresolved. It is already a cash movement; investigation is needed to establish the payer, purpose, economic owner and target. Leaving it Open preserves that uncertainty without inventing an income, contribution or owner.
Application and offset are different resolutions. Application explains the cash by reclassifying it and recording the supported business relationship. An offset links eligible unapplied movements that genuinely cancel. A zero offset net is an arithmetic result and does not establish that either movement was a fund income or contribution.
Select Entity and As of Date. Entity follows the transaction's legal account. The cutoff includes parent transaction dates through the selected date. Age (Days) is that selected date minus the transaction Date, not necessarily today's age.
Fictional Cedarbridge Onboarding Practice LP #2, October 21, 2026: Cash Split #6 is +USD80 dated October 8, with Age 13, Related Links 0 and Open / Awaiting Application or Offset. Its stored owner fields are blank.
The USD80 receipt has no documented business target or offset, so it remains Open. Age follows the selected As of Date: October 8 gives age 0, while October 21 gives age 13.
The table has no default filter hiding Cleared rows. Use Filter to focus on a status, account or age, and inspect active table filters when interpreting an empty result. Amount totals can include several currencies and both open and cleared rows; a footer is not automatically an outstanding cash balance.
Understand the statuses
- Open / Awaiting Application or Offset: an eligible split stands alone in this check's offset group.
- Invalid: the split has a missing/zero amount, or an outgoing non-offset link while it is still classified as unapplied. An ordinary business link produces Unapplied Cash with Non-Offset Link.
- Mismatched: linked eligible unapplied splits have a nonzero net at this check's tolerance.
- Cleared: a connected group of eligible unapplied splits nets to effectively zero—absolute net below 0.000001.
Cleared is a recalculated link/arithmetic result. It is not confirmation of payment, business application, GL posting, locking or sign-off. This dataset displays owner fields but does not separately validate them; Open does not certify that an assigned owner is appropriate. Use Integrity for its additional unapplied-cash checks.
Follow the item into its actual chain
Scroll horizontally to Explorer and choose Open explorer. In this example, the link opens Cash split #6 in Cash → Transaction Explorer. Open the cash-split row and inspect its Feed, Transaction, Activity and Accounting stages.
The same fictional split #6 is Unallocated. Transaction #6 and its USD80 split exist; the expanded rows show No linked bank/broker feed record, No linked activity or offset, and No journal linked to this split or its activities. Stage counts can include these missing-record placeholders.
Keep the source IDs as you navigate. Do not add stage/context amounts to the parent cash-split total. A stored transaction status of Posted does not replace journal evidence.
Cmd/Ctrl-click Cash Split ID or Account Transaction ID to open the exact underlying record. Explorer links can also be offered for reversed transactions that the Explorer itself excludes; if empty, return to the retained typed source references and confirm eligibility.
Apply only when the evidence supports it
Application is an authorized source-data correction, not a button on this Recon page. In Data, inspect Cash Splits and Cash Split Links using the actual account and date scope.
Once the payer, purpose, economic owner and business target are supported, use the authorized source workflow to record the appropriate ownership, Purpose and Related Type + Related Id + Allocated Amount. Select your organization's supported values; a business link alone does not replace the required classification.
Adding a business link alone while retaining Unapplied Cash does not complete application: it creates an Invalid non-offset link in this check. After an approved reclassification/application, refresh this page, Cash Splits Recon, Integrity and the relevant bank/GL checks. Disappearance alone is not proof of correct settlement.
For an offset, inspect the existing unapplied records and evidence supporting their relationship. Do not create an opposite amount or duplicate a bank movement just to make the net zero. The example shows an open receipt, not a completed offset.
How offset netting and date scope work
Offset relationships connect Cash Splits to other eligible unapplied Cash Splits. A stored link in one direction is treated as a connection in both directions. The check nets the whole signed split amounts across the connected group; link Allocated Amount does not create partial clearing.
Both endpoints must be eligible through the date cutoff. Entity selection can change which connected members contribute to the group count and net. Current purpose, amounts and links are used; As of Date does not reconstruct their historical versions. Reversed transactions are not excluded here.
Netting does not enforce equal currency or account, and there is no FX conversion. Inspect those facts yourself before accepting an offset. Invalid conditions can be local to one row, so Cleared on another member does not certify the entire group.
The grid supports row selection for context. Selection and reference navigation do not grant permission to alter records or execute a financial action.
Split #6 passes Account Transaction Splits Recon because its USD80 amount covers the parent transaction. It is excluded from Cash Splits Recon because its Purpose is Unapplied Cash, and remains Open here until supported application or a genuine offset is recorded.
