Allocations
Fund Operations → Allocations
Use Allocations to record who participates in an investment, income or expense. Establish this relationship before relying on owner-level investment exposure or allocation coverage checks.
Connect a participant to a covered item
An investment or expense identifies the economic item, but its existence alone does not say which fund class or subscription participates in it. An allocation scheme records that relationship. Its participant side supplies the owners and percentages; its covered-item side identifies the investment, income or expense to which those percentages apply.
The scheme is the connection between those two sides. An entry without a covered item has no identified subject; a covered item without participants has no complete ownership assignment. Effective dates determine when the relationship can be used, so a percentage total must be read with the scheme, owners, item and dates.
A scheme brings two sets of records together. Allocation Entries identify the participants and their percentages. Allocated Items identify the investments, incomes or expenses covered by that scheme.
For example, the Core participation scheme assigns Class A 100% of Harbor Example Software. Class A is the participant; Harbor is the allocated item. The scheme connects them, while Harbor's dated activities and cash payment remain separate records.
Before creating or changing a scheme, confirm the participant type and ID, the covered item, percentages and effective date. A complete percentage total alone does not establish that the correct relationship was selected.

Where to continue
Scheme Integrity checks whether the selected owner set is usable at the scheme’s effective date. Coverage checks whether an applicable scheme and owner set exist for a particular source record at that record’s date. These can differ because they ask about different dates. Period profit/loss allocation results belong to the accounting process that uses these operating relationships.
FundOps Recon checks scheme integrity and coverage. Review period profit/loss allocation results in Fees & Capital Allocations → Allocation Tie-Out.
