Activity
Use Fund Operations → Fund Overview → Activity to read the source activity timeline attributed to a Share Class. Start here to answer “what was recorded, when, and for which subscription or investment?” Continue to Activity Explorer when you need its cash settlements and journals.
Find and open an event
- Select Entity and, for an unambiguous class timeline, Share Class.
- Read Date, Type, Category and Amount together. Use search or the table's Filter and Sort controls to narrow the records.
- Expand a date row. Activity opens the underlying event; Related Record opens its subscription, investment, expense or income record where a reference is available.
- Check the source description and category before investigating a suspected duplicate.
This tab has no As of Date filter. A date retained in the browser URL from another tab does not limit this timeline. Use a table date filter when needed; use Performance for as-of analysis, or Structure where that tab is installed.
Distinguish an obligation from its settlement
The timeline records events, rather than just bank movements. A commitment establishes an agreed obligation, a capital call requests funding, and a contribution records funding. Several categories can therefore appear for the same participation and amount without duplicating the event. The category and source relationship explain the row; its sign alone does not identify money entering or leaving a bank account.
The fictional timeline below demonstrates these distinctions.
Native Activity tab with fictional Cedarbridge Example Fund LP and Class A selected. Three groups are expanded to show source references. The sidebar is expanded; the app's own tabs provide navigation.
The timeline contains five source events:
- July 1: subscription commitment USD100,000 and a separate capital-call notice −USD100,000.
- July 5: subscription contribution −USD100,000, linked to Cedarbridge Core Subscription.
- July 10: investment capital-call notice −USD40,000.
- July 15: investment contribution −USD40,000, linked to Harbor Example Software.
The two July 1 rows are separate event categories, not a duplicate. The negative subscription contribution follows the source activity convention; the associated bank receipt is positive. A notice records an obligation, not settlement. Do not add the notice and contribution as two cash payments or add commitment and contribution as two commitments.
Understand the row grouping and attribution
A displayed date group collects events with the same Share Class, date, Type, Category and currency. Different categories or types can therefore have separate rows on the same date. Expand the group to distinguish legitimate individual events. Its Amount already sums the detail records: never add the parent amount to its children again.
Subscription events use the subscription's explicit Share Class. Investment events use the applicable investment allocation scheme and share-class percentage at each event date. Their Amount is the class-attributed portion, which can differ from the full recorded investment activity in Activity. One investment event may legitimately appear for several classes.
Expenses and incomes appear only when their existing source item has a qualifying effective allocation to the class. The fictional USD1,200 expense exists and has a cash settlement, but has no expense allocation, so it does not appear in this class timeline. Its absence is not proof that the expense or payment is missing.
Amounts retain their source signs and currencies. This timeline is not a net cash, GL or NAV calculation and does not establish FX conversion.
Investigate without creating duplicates
For a missing row, first check the selected Entity/class, existing source activity, event date and category. For an investment, expense or income, inspect the allocated item, scheme effective date and class entry in Allocations. If an event exists but falls outside a qualifying class relationship, do not insert another event to make it appear here.
Correct an evidenced error in the existing owning record through its permitted editor or approved process, then refresh. Opening or expanding this timeline does not allocate an item, settle it, post a journal or lock it.
For “was it paid?” or “was it posted?”, open Fund Overview → Activity Explorer. For source completeness and allocation exceptions, use FundOps Recon; for bank/split/GL differences, use Cash Recon and the relevant Accounting view.
